 | | Hello, ARC runners, Welcome to the first edition of the Anniston Runners Club Connection for 2012. We're trying out a new look and a new format this year, so give us a few weeks to work out the kinks. Hopefully, we'll have this ship sailing along smoothly by the time Woodstock rolls around in August. Much of the old E-news we're keeping the same, so send in your race reports and anything else you'd like to include for your fellow ARC members. We're also going to try to include a few other running-related items in each edition that will highlight anything from national running news to injury-prevention tips. Fast, injury-free running to all. See you on the next training run. Sincerely, Phillip Tutor | Tux time The Anniston Runners Club annual banquet is fast approaching. It's from 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, at Anniston Country Club. It's ARC's can't-miss winter event. That night, we'll recognize the Grand Prix winners, the 1,200-Mile Club, the Mile-A-Day Club, the new ARC officers, the 2012 Grand Prix schedule and more. For more information, and to register, click here. |
It's an election year
ARC members who haven't voted on the incoming club leadership or the 2012 Grand Prix schedule, please do so - quickly. E-mail Tom Griffin for details or a ballot. Here's Tom's e-mail address: tjgriffin2@earthlink.net. | | And the winners are If you don't want to wait until the ARC banquet to see who dominated the 2011 Grand Prix standings, check 'em out on the ARC website or click here.
| Membership counts Don't forget that January is the time to renew your ARC membership. It's easy, and it's cheap. Don't forget to re-up as soon as possible - perhaps at Half-Naked Marathon at McClellan, or at the ARC banquet? |
Training runs For those who like a little company on their training runs, ARC's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/42025506998/) is a great place to notify ARC runners who's running where and when. For those who prefer solitude, run solo - and then tell us how you did on the ARC page. |
Mount Cheaha 50K Update Todd Henderson encourages anyone thinking of running ARC's only 50K to go ahead and sign up! To date, there are 145 signed up and spots for only 70 more. There are a record number of ARC members doing the ultra this year, so come run the trails with your friends! If you don't plan to run it, plan to volunteer. It's a blast and ARC members are needed as volunteers in many capacities: registration the night before, aid station volunteers, finish line volunteers, etc.... | Biting the Big Apple ARC already has a handful of members entered in the 2012 New York City Marathon. (Go ahead, raise your hand, take a bow.) For those who want to try to get in with a non-guaranteed entry, there's still time to give it a shot. Check it out here: http://www.nycmarathon.org/ But bring your checkbook If you're going to run New York this year, be advised that the price has gone up - a lot. Read all about it here. |
Running headlines Comedian is running 12 marathons in 12 months - and he's running them blindfolded. Really - and it's for a good cause.
Distance running lost several notable names in 2011: Running.net has published its 10 best moments in U.S. distance running for 2011. It's amazing they didn't put Woodstock on their list, but it's still worth reading. |
| Mark your calendars Trying to plan the first half of your 2012 race schedule? Here's a good Alabama race calendar that should help. Follow the links and you can find other states, too. |
| Running words "When you hit a rough patch, try to imagine yourself as an Olympic athlete who's headed towards the finish line. Envision your running form as smooth, graceful, and relaxed. Think of a runner who you really admire and imagine yourself running just like him." - Christine Luff, author of "Mental Tips for Long Runs," About.com Guide |
